Paul Rand x MTA
Visual Identity, Form-Making, Print/Installation DesignIn the second portion of the project, I designed an interactive display featuring a MetroCard machine with fifty custom-designed MetroCards, each showcasing one of the posters. The back of each card advertises the 100th anniversary of Rand’s "Subway Posters Score" at MoMA, where the original work has been exhibited. This interactive installation allows viewers to engage with the machine by opening it and inserting a card, simulating the experience of retrieving a MetroCard. The display references the popularity and collectibility of limited edition MetroCards, which have been released in collaboration with notable artists like Dolly Parton, Barbara Kruger, and Supreme, with stories emerging of people breaking into machines to collect them.
