Zero Cash is a Fintech company founded by Fatima Zohra Bouladjoul to address the problem of the Algerian population's dependence on cash payments. With only 26% of the population aged 15 and older making or receiving digital payments in 2022, there is a significant gap in the market that Zero Cash aims to fill. The proposed solution is a mobile application that enables users to perform Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and Peer-to-Business (P2B) digital payments and manage bill payments seamlessly.

ProblemCash-based transactions are a dominant mode of payment in Algeria, causing significant delays and inconvenience to users. Digital payments in Algeria have been slow to take off, despite a growing population of smartphone users. A significant segment of the population remains unbanked or underbanked, and there are limited payment options for online purchases. The current payment infrastructure is inefficient and lacks transparency, resulting in long wait times for payment transfers.

SolutionWe developed a mobile application with a simple and intuitive user interface that allows users to perform digital payments and manage their bills. The app offers P2P and P2B payment options, as well as the ability to pay bills for electricity, water, gas, and phone services. The app also provides users with real-time payment status updates, payment reminders, and payment history.

01. Research

User InterviewTo gain insight into the payment behavior of Algerians, we conducted several user interviews. Our interviewees were smartphone users from various age groups, professions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Most respondents acknowledged the challenges they face when paying bills, sending money, or receiving payments. They reported that the current payment infrastructure is inconvenient, slow, and unreliable. Many expressed a preference for cash transactions because they are familiar with them and perceive them to be more secure.

Competitive AnalysisWe conducted a competitive analysis to understand the digital payment landscape in Algeria. We found that while there are a few local players, there are no comprehensive payment solutions that cater to the needs of the population. Several mobile payment apps have been introduced, but their adoption has been slow due to poor user experience, limited payment options, and lack of trust in the technology.

Competitive AnalysisOur research revealed that the Algerian population is eager for a payment solution that is easy to use, reliable, and trustworthy. We also found that there is a considerable opportunity for a payment app that offers a comprehensive suite of services, including P2P and P2B payments, bill payments, and online purchases. Building trust in the technology and the company behind it would be critical to adoption.
